Philip Cumbus
Philip trained at RADA and graduated in 2004. Philip works as a director, teacher, actor and educational practitioner. He is currently featuring in and filming on The Crown (Netflix). He has directed short courses, productions and projects at RADA, East 15 and Drama Studio.
He is currently Director in Residence for the Rutgers Acting Programme at Shakespeare’s Globe and has worked within Globe Education since 2008.
His acting work in theatre includes: Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest, Comus, Inn at Lydda, ’Tis Pity She’s a Whore, The Lightning Child, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, The Globe Mysteries, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Helen, Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of Venice and Holding Fire! (all at Shakespeare’s Globe, 2011 - 2022); Macbeth (2018 Wanamaker Playhouse); The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui (Donmar Warehouse); First Light (Minerva Theatre Chichester); The Importance of Being Earnest (Vaudeville Theatre); Richard III (Trafalgar Studios); Moon Tiger (Theatre Royal Bath and tour); The Norman Conquests (Liverpool Playhouse), 66 Books (Bush Theatre); The Crucible (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre); The Man Who Had All the Luck (Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh); The Master Builder, In Praise of Love (Minerva Theatre Chichester); J.L. Philip has been on the Globes’ Creative Council since 2018.
