A catch-up with Short Courses student Victoria Chang

Last year actress Victoria Chang completed several of our popular online Short Courses, including Shakespeare in Action and Second Act, from her home in the US. The opportunity to work with members of RADA's experienced faculty was made possible for Victoria because all of the courses were delivered online – something that we continue to offer this year, with our vast programme of courses available to actors across the world.

Here, Victoria shares some thoughts about her Short Courses experience.

Without being able to take the course remotely, I don’t think I would have been able to study with RADA and improve so much in such a short time period.

What motivated you to do an acting short course?

I found myself wanting to continue to train during the pandemic, and was unable to attend any in-person courses near my home.

What made you choose RADA, over any other acting short course?

I chose to take an acting short course at RADA because I wanted to learn how to act from one of the best acting schools in the world. Everywhere I looked, I would find out one of my favourite actors studied at RADA.

What was your experience of the courses?

I had a wonderful time on all of the acting short courses I took with RADA. Second Act was the first acting course I took, and due to the wonderful time I had, I continued to take additional courses online. I found the tutors to be friendly, highly knowledgeable, and most importantly dedicated to our success. All the exercises were fundamental to the improvement of my craft.

What was it like to do your short course online?

Taking the short course online was an amazing opportunity for me, and for a lot of my fellow students outside the UK. Without being able to take the course remotely, I don’t think I would have been able to study with RADA and improve so much in such a short time period. It was an incredibly valuable experience and I highly recommend it to all.

What has been your personal highlight from your short course experience?

A personal highlight from my Second Act short course experience was getting the experience to learn about and work on a Restoration Comedy play. I had an amazing time in one of the movement classes where we learned to walk as, greet as, and took on the mannerisms of courtly men and women of that time period. It was a lot of fun!

How has your short course training helped your career?

After taking short courses with RADA, I noticed that my studies in acting progressed much faster than before. I gained confidence in my abilities and found myself improving continuously. I started to apply for more roles in projects and found myself sending in more self-tapes.

What advice would you give someone considering doing a RADA short course?

Just do it! It’s an amazing opportunity to learn a lot in a short period of time and make new friends from all over the world.
