Congratulations to BA (Hons) Acting Graduate, David Jonsson, who has been named EE Rising Star by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

Celebrating its twentieth year, the prestigious EE Rising Star Award is the only BAFTA Award voted for by the British public. It honours early career actors who have demonstrated exceptional talent and begun to capture the imagination of the British public. RADA Youth Company alumna Bukky Bakray received this award in 2021.

David Jonsson graduated from RADA in 2016. He is known for his critically acclaimed film debut Rye Lane and his role in Industry, in which he stars alongside fellow graduate Marisa Abela. David received international recognition this year for his performance as ‘synthetic human’ Andy in sci-fi horror Alien: Romulus.

On his nomination, David said:

“As a young boy growing up in East London, I couldn’t think of an honour that’s more about the people, and proof that you can do it too. An absolute blessing and dream.”

David’s upcoming projects include The Long Walk, Wasteman, and Colman Domingo’s directorial debut, Scandalous.
