Imelda Staunton wins at the WhatsOnStage Awards
Congratulations to RADA Graduate Imelda Staunton, who was awarded Best Performer in a Musical at the WhatsOnStage Awards for her critically acclaimed performance as Dolly in Dominic Cooke’s revival of Hello Dolly! .
Imelda received the award on 9 February at the London Palladium, at a ceremony which celebrated the “diversity and variety of theatre productions” in the UK. This is the third time she has won in this category, following wins for her performances in Sweeney Todd (2013) and Gypsy (2016). RADA Graduate Michael Sheen was also nominated for Best Performer in a Play, for his performance in Nye at the National Theatre.
Imelda Staunton graduated from RADA in 1976. She is widely celebrated for her roles on stage and screen, and has won numerous awards including a BAFTA for her leading role in Vera Drake, two BIFAs, and four Oliviers. She was made a Dame in the 2024 Birthday Honours.
Imelda will reunite with director Dominic Cooke to star in a new production of George Bernard Shaw’s Mrs Warren’s Profession at the Garrick Theatre this spring.
